In Greek Mythology snake rings were worn in honour of the Greek healing god Asclepius who was struck down by Zeus fearing Asclepius would transform all of mankind into immortals with his healing powers. In the 19th Century the snake or serpent ring was very popular with ladies who found the style enticingly pleasing.
In 1840 Prince Albert designed a snake ring for Queen Victoria, two snakes wrapped round the finger in an enchanting symbol of eternal love. The Ouroboros (the serpent eating its own tale) is a common symbol for both time and eternity. It, like the circle, represents wholeness and perfection because it has no end.
